Date Plum trees are in the persimmon family. Cultivated along the Mediterranean by the ancient Greeks referred to it as "God's fruit."  Fruits are the size of large cherries and astringent when unripe but have a rich flavor when fully developed. Fruits can be eaten fresh, dried, jellied or added to baked goods. Male and Female plants are needed to produce fruit. Commercially sold dried in Asia and Italy this is an uncommon fruit here in the states.
