When growing a food forest in zone 9 evergreens are often difficult to come by. The Simpson stopper is an ornamental evergreen hedge that does an amazing job at attracting the pollinators early in the summer. The small berries are a bit fiddley but are one of my sons favorites. The flavor is citrusy like a kumquat but with tart berry undertones. These dense bushes take hedging well and can be kept as a low walkway plant or allowed to grow into a privacy screen.
